CAROL

Film and commercial director and screenwriter, Carol (Carolina) is based in São Paulo, Brazil.

“Charcoal”, her debut feature, premiered at TIFF with stellar reviews and subsequently opened in theatres and is available on streaming platforms in March 2023. A darkly comic thriller, “Charcoal” was a Brazilian entry for the 2023 Oscars and is well worth the watch. If you are in Europe – find it on Amazon Prime (paid rental).

Previously:
Carol’s first short film 69 – Praça da Luz (69-Luz Square) won several awards around the world, including best short film at Rio De Janeiro International Film Festival and was screened at MoMa-NY.

Tatuapé Mahal Tower, which she wrote and co-directed, premiered at TIFF- Toronto International Film Festival 2014. At TIFF, Carolina was considered one of the “five filmmakers to watch” of Short Cuts International by curator Shane Smith, at Co-Create. TMT became one of the most awarded short films of 2014 in Brazil and has been selected to more than 200 festivals around the world.

In 2015, she was invited to be part of TIFF- Toronto International Film Festival- Talent Lab, with Wim Wenders and Jim Stark as mentors.

In 2018, Carolina was selected by Talents Berlinale 2018 and Locarno Filmmakers Academy, and showcased at Indiewire as one of “Some of the world’s most exciting new filmmakers”.

Postergados (Postponed) is her third short film, with actor César Bordón (Relatos Salvajes) and Mirella Pascual (Whisky). It won Best Screenplay at Festival de Gramado and was in the official competition at Festival de Biarritz.

Namoro À Distância (Long Distance Relationship), her fourth short, had its World Premiere at TIFF- Toronto International Film Festival 2017 and American Premiere at SXSW 2018.

Her most recent short, O Órfão (The Orphan), premiered at the Director’s Fortnight – Cannes – 2018, and won the Queer Palm. The Orphan was also selected for Locarno, TIFF 2018, AFI, and collected many awards worldwide.
